Just Like Seattle: Day of Seattle

Veggie Man: "Look! This is from Am-ehr-eeka! Like you!"
YGirl: "Oh my God! This is from my land! My state!"
VM: "Yes, U.S.A."
YGirl: "This is just like Seattle!"

Hey! Look! It's some twirly glass! Chihuly twirly glass!
It's just like Seattle!

Hey! Look! Young hoodlums rascals making lots of noise with their skateboards!
It's just like Seattle!

(In the restaurant:)
YGirl: "Excuse me! Why do you have these wines?"
Waiter: "Umm, these ones?"
YGirl: "Yes, they are from close to my house in America."
Waiter: "Uh, I dunno, maybe the price? Or maybe it's the taste?"
YGirl: "Awesome."

Just Like Seattle: Not REALLY cold, but freezing my tush off.

What is so Seattle about this picture?
The rays of sun pouring into the working train station at a convenient time?

Of course not.

Hey! Look! It's a guy all in black, with pants so tight no one knows how his feet fit through the legs.
It's just like Seattle!

Oh! Oh! Hey! Look! It's raining!
It's just like Seattle!
(Not just like Seattle? The power went out after it started raining. Again.
They had to cancel school due to lack of electricity. Because of rain.
Forget snow days. We had a Rain Day.)

Oh, and last but not least:

Hey! Look! It's YGirl wearing a perfectly normal
"going out with friends for dinner" outfit
with a clashing North Face coat!
It's just like Seattle!

Just Like Seattle: First post

I find myself walking around and thinking to myself:

"Hey! Look at                     . It's just like Seattle!"

So I take pictures and will share them with you!

You can't hear it, but he's playing grunge on his guitar.
Look! A guy playing grunge on his guitar in front of the Billabong store!
It's just like Seattle!

Hey! Look! It's raining!
It's just like Seattle!
(Not just like Seattle? The power went out for a quarter of the city after it rained.)

Hey! Look! The Space Needle in a coffee shop!
It's just like Seattle!

Tel Aviv - It's not confusing, it's just Israel

E. and I schlepped down to Tel Aviv - the metropolis of Israel. Center of style! Center of secular life! Center of confusing bus systems and hidden train stations!

We had a late lunch with Dov and then went into the center for some good old schlepping around the city.

We went to market, where I bought figs (score!) and headscarves for the lovely Rebecca.

YGirl and E in the market.

Gorgeous fresh veggies - a great variety too. I found butter lettuce (my father would be thrilled), jerusalem artichokes (which oddly have nothing to do with Jerusalem or artichokes, the more correct name for them is Sunchokes - they are a tuber related to sunflowers), figs, huge radishes, squash, etc.

Then we walked down Sheinken Street - lots of hip stores and American/European brands. In fact it was just like Seattle at some points. Case in point:

A young man playing a rock song on his guitar outside the Billabong store. See, just like home.

From there we walked up Rothschild Street, a lovely wide boulevard with a pedestrian median with cafes and trees and benches.

I took these photos of some of the lovely buildings in the area. I apologize for the quality of the pictures.

This one was lit up in yellow. It was beautiful!
